THE HISTORY OF PYROIS MEDIA
Dedicated to helping equine businesses thrive, Pyrois Media is more than just a marketing agency, it’s a part of your company’s family.
The idea of Pyrois Media was conceived by founder Melissa Bauer-Herzog at a restaurant only feet away from the Sydney Opera House in January 2018, but it wasn’t until nearly five months later that its doors opened on May 31, 2018. Named after one of the mares who helped Helios pull the sun around Earth every day, a love of horses and helping the equine industry grow were the main ideas Pyrois Media was developed on.
Opened after Melissa returned home from nine months in Australia, the company was first run out of a small cabin in the woods a few miles from Mt. St. Helens in Washington state with horse racing clients in both Australia and the United States. In March 2019, Pyrois Media packed its bags and relocated to Kentucky where Melissa had lived for five years before her journey abroad.
While the location has changed and Pyrois Media now serves all disciplines, Pyrois Media’s commitment to its clients and the industry as a whole has stayed the same. Today, Pyrois Media offers five different services to help both companies and individuals, no matter the size of their operation. Our services range from sales and pedigree research to website management and content creation. You can see all of our services here.
ABOUT MELISSA BAUER-HERZOG
Like most people in the horse business, when Melissa Bauer-Herzog was bitten by the horse bug as a child, her parents thought she would grow out of it. But over 20 years later, she’s still firmly entrenched in the industry.
A graduate of West Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication, her love of horses, writing, and photography led to a six month internship at the United States Equestrian Federation in Lexington, Ky. during the 2012 London Summer Olympics. She fell in love with the area and made it her home base while gaining experience in many different roles in the equine industry.
Melissa spent the first five years of her time in Lexington working as an editor, a researcher, and a farm communication intern and learned more than she ever imagined she could about communication and media needs in the horse industry. Rounding out her experience in the bluegrass, Melissa also spent a season preparing yearlings for sales and three years foaling out mares at Machmer Hall, Glennwood Farm, and Hinkle Farm.
Working at at America’s Best Racing for five years, Melissa covered racehorse aftercare topics in addition to major horse racing events before moving to Australia for nine months in 2017. Her first role was a six month stint at Newgate Farm where she was responsible for running the farm’s Facebook and Twitter accounts before spending a few months at the famed stable of trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott working in client relations and content creation.
In addition to her experiences above, Melissa is also a freelance journalist and photographer. Still as in love with horses as she was as a child, you can often find Melissa at tracks, horse shows, and farms around the world if she isn’t hanging out with her own horses.
